Is your website a “Mobile Friendly Website”?

It better be by April 21, 2015.  Google plans to update their alogarithm and penalize sites that do not meet their standards for mobile friendliness.  If you are a local business that depends on a big portion of your search traffic from mobile, like a service business or restaurant, then you’d better take action.  Some estimates are that about 30% of all traffic comes from mobile.  Of course you can check in your Google Analytics by device to know exactly how much on your website.

Google Says,

Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.

So it is likely that your search ranking on mobile device will be affected if you don’t take action now.

How do I know if I have mobile issues?

If you have received a notification from Google Webmaster Tools, you should take action.  If you don’t have Google Webmaster Tools set up then you can use Google’s Mobility Friendly Test Tool:

It will tell you if your site has issues that need to be fixed.
